Hola Amigos!

Wednesday did not let us down, it was jam packed with teaching, painting, and baking semitas!

Once again, we piled into the vans at 6:45am and we made our way to Ciudad Espana. Once we broke out our games and teaching supplies and got to work with our students. Today we worked on writing letters to pen pals.

In the afternoon we put the first coat of paint on the church. They opted for a light pale yellow and brilliant teal blue accent color. It’s vibrant and beautiful! The thing that was even more beautiful was the fact that we were able to paint alongside our friends from Ciudad Espana. We had good conversations, made jokes, and we’ve all worked on our Spanish!

While painting was happening we were also taking shifts helping some of the women from the community make semitas in the church kitchen! Semitas are a delicious soft sweet bun (not unlike a scone) encased in a light crust made from sugar cane syrup, lard, and flour, you dip them in sugar and bake. We got the full experience of kneading the dough, and forming the semitas. It was a beautiful exchange, the atmosphere in the kitchen was so vibrant, lively and full of joy. I hope you enjoy some of the photos.

It was awesome to share coffee and semitas with our friends. Honduran culture is so warm and kind, I love being in community with our brothers and sisters in Christ in Ciudad Espana.
