The day began with one of the best smells around – bacon!  We have been incredibly well cared for – from our coordinator, to our interpreters, to the women who feed us and take care of us, to the incredible leaders in Ciudad España, we have felt loved the entire week!  Denya has made us incredible breakfasts and dinners – I think we’ve eaten some of Honduras’s best food this week.  Bessy, one of our phenomenal interpreters, even got up early to make us banana bread and cinnamon rolls.  While our stomachs may be full, our hearts are even fuller

Today was are last full day in Honduras – which is typically a cultural day.  We woke up with the sun to hit the road and arrive in Ciudad in time for Student’s Day to begin.  This is an annual holiday in Honduras for 7th-12th graders.  Since this is an atypical year, we couldn’t have the entire school there, so the students we’ve been working with this week (27) came to represent all of their classmates (they’ve been mostly schooling from home since March 2020 using WhatsApp to communicate with their teachers and send in schoolwork, oftentimes sharing a phone amongst 2-5 students).  We spread out on the outdoor sports court and played games that typically had a Honduran student paired with a US team member racing against other team members.  It was very competitive and very fun!  After the celebration, we worked with the Juan Wesley teachers on their English (they have been learning English every Friday night over Zoom with Resurrection volunteers).  We played games – some of which included us needing to know Spanish.  The teachers dominated the “fly swatter” game that included running, translating, and then creating a sentence in the opposite language.  We laughed and joked the entire morning with each other.  I can’t think of a better way to participate in the Honduran culture than this!

Around noon we headed to Valle de Los Angeles to eat and do a little shopping in this beautiful quaint village.  We were able to purchase a few items to remember our time here in Honduras.  As we headed back down the mountain towards Teguc, we made a quick stop in Santa Lucia to enjoy a cup of coffee and an incredible view.  It’s been a great week – these women have created a beautiful quilt filled with our different gifts, personalities, and culture.  Whether we live in Honduras or the US, we are sisters (and a few brothers 😊) in Christ – supporting and encouraging each other along life’s bumpy path.  It’s an honor to know and love these incredible servant leaders!
